As the name suggests, the hotel is made\nfrom ice blocks, so it melts in spring. As a result, next year it has to be constructed again.\n4.2.\nIn 1990 an exhibition of ice art was organised in a big igloo built near Jukkasjärvi. One night\nthere were no free rooms in hotels in town, and some visitors asked for permission to spend\nthe night in the exhibition hall. They slept in their sleeping bags on top of reindeer skins.\nThat’s when the organisers thought that a hotel made of ice could be built in the area.\n4.3.\nIn order to make sure there is enough ice, 5,000 tons of ice are taken from the Torne River\nin winter. Then, the ice blocks are transported to a giant building in Jukkasjärvi, in which\nthe temperature is -5°C all year round. The ice is kept there until the building process starts.\nPoziom podstawowy\nMJA_1P\n4.4.\nIn November over a hundred people, half of them artists, the other half professional builders,\ncome to the region to construct the beautiful structure. They’re all determined and spend days\nand nights trying to finish the hotel in six weeks.\n4.5.\nThere are 65 rooms, singles and doubles, of different standards. Some guests choose luxurious\nsuites such as a deluxe room called ‘Song of Lotus’, which includes a sauna and a relaxation\narea but there are also cheaper rooms where tourists sleep on ice beds with reindeer skins on\nthem.\n4.6.\nThe temperature may differ from room to room, but it is usually lower than -5°C! That is why\nguests are advised to use their own thermal sleeping bags and wear gloves and winter hats\nat night. There is no kettle in the room, but if you have a thermos flask, you can get hot tea for\nfree.\n4.7.\nThe structure is the most ecological building you could ever imagine. It welcomes guests all\nwinter and when temperatures rise, it simply melts into one giant puddle. Many different steps\nwere also taken to limit the negative impact of the hotel on the beautiful natural surroundings,\nfor example some energy-conservation and water-saving schemes were introduced.\nadapted from www.dogonews.com\nPRZENIEŚ ROZWIĄZANIA NA KARTĘ ODPOWIEDZI!\nPoziom podstawowy\nMJA_1P","answer":null,"answer_text":"4. błędy zapisu\nortografia\nlinia prosta podkreślająca\nbłędny wyraz\nort.","solution":null,"image":"img/jezyk-angielski-2016-maj-matura-stara-podstawowa/zad-4.webp","solution_image":null,"topics":null,"page_from":4,"source":"ocr","answer_source":null,"answer_text_source":"ocr","solution_source":null,"text_source":"ocr","source_label":"Język angielski · Matura · maj 2016 (podstawowa)","subject_label":"Język angielski","category_label":"Matura"},{"id":"jezyk-angielski-2016-maj-matura-stara-podstawowa/zad/5","paper_id":"jezyk-angielski-2016-maj-matura-stara-podstawowa","number":"5","points":6,"ptype":"open","subject":"jezyk-angielski","category":"matura","year":2016,"month":"maj","level":"podstawowa","text":"Zadanie 5. Not with cooking food myself - I am usually\nterrible at it - but with the general act of preparing food, especially baking. I used to sit on\nthe kitchen counter and watch my mother and sisters. Whenever they left a cake to rise\nor potatoes to roast, I spent hours lying on the floor watching the oven. I often wanted to help\nbut they didn’t let me.\nI loved watching my mother make orange marmalade every Christmas. Oranges were not easy\nto buy and were only really available during the winter. My mother waited for hours outside\nthe local grocer’s for the first oranges of the season, together with half the neighbourhood\npopulation.\nWhen I grew up, I lost interest in preparing food. Besides, my hospital duties and seeing\npatients didn’t give me much free time. This all changed one evening in winter, around\na week before Christmas in 1920. On my way home, I passed by the local grocer’s, and that\nwas when I saw a sign outside. ‘Oranges in stock’, it read. I stopped, and read the sign again.\nMarmalade was the only thing I could make with a sure chance of success, and I wanted\nto make something for Christmas. I immediately knew what I was going to buy. I paid for all\nthe ingredients I needed, and I felt happy.\nIt took me a little more than a quarter of an hour to prepare everything. I measured out\nthe sugar and water like a professional chef. I remembered my mother’s recipe for\nmarmalade, so making it was relatively easy. I was so proud that I didn’t need any cookbook\nto prepare it.\nWhen I was younger, I never waited for the marmalade to cool before I tried some. I always\nput a finger in it to taste it. This time, however, I waited until it had cooled. Then I tried some.\nIt was exactly how I remembered and wanted it - a little mouthful of sweet sunshine.\nI repeated this over and over again, and each time it tasted as good as the last.\nadapted from Marmalade At Christmas by Agatha Christie\nPoziom podstawowy\nMJA_1P\nT\nF\n5.1. This event started back in\n1938, when the local riding club decided to organise a series of motorcycle races in the nearby\nfields. First, it was a small event with just nine races and few spectators, but then it gradually\ngrew into a huge annual event. Every year, in the first week of August, it attracts hundreds of\nthousands of visitors to the sleepy town of Sturgis.\nThere are many other rallies in the USA, but a large number of motorcycle riders\nand enthusiasts choose the little town of Sturgis. During this time, the population of the town\nexplodes from just over 7,000 to more than 300,000 people. The height of Sturgis’s popularity\nwas back in the 1990s, when more than 500,000 people came to town. Recently gas prices\nhave gone up and it costs a lot to get to Sturgis and take part in the rally so the number of\nparticipants has dropped. This situation is difficult for the shopkeepers who sell their products\nto visitors. Yet, there are still lots of riders, including amateurs, who decide to come to\nSturgis. Almost nobody travels there by car. They choose to get there on their own\nmotorcycles. They say that the road may be long and very tiring, but the scenery and\nthe exciting feeling of the wind in your hair make up for it.\nDuring the rally, the main street of the town of Sturgis is closed to regular traffic. All you can\nsee in the street during the first week of August is motorcycles. And the only sounds that you\nwill hear during the rally are those made by motorcycle engines. But even though there are so\nmany big motorcycles in the town centre, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is quite safe. There are\nplenty of security guards and traffic wardens who walk around the town and keep the peace\nwhile families with children enjoy a unique holiday there.\nOne of the most important races is the Mayor’s Ride. The Mayor opens the race and then\npeople can join him on a ride to Mount Rushmore. The participants of this race must first\nregister and pay a fee of $160, and only 250 riders are allowed to enter. There have been\ncomplaints about limiting the number of riders, so the organisers are thinking of expanding\nthe number in the future. All the profits from this ride go to Sturgis Fire Station.\nIn Sturgis you can also see and buy motorcycles from all the famous motorcycle brands.\nAnd if you want to escape the heat, there are lots of bars all around town where you can relax.\nIn the evenings, you can leave the town and go to the Black Hills region for concerts\nof famous rock bands. Not very far from the Black Hills there is a big campsite, so you can\nrent a tent and stay there overnight if you want. There are so many things to do during\nthe Sturgis Motorcycle Rally that seven days might be too short.\nadapted from http://ezinearticles.com\nPoziom podstawowy\nMJA_1P\n6.1.
