It was 1 p.m. when Lindsay realized they’d run out of the tiramisu donuts. With their white
chocolate decorations, the new donuts were getting lots of positive comments and likes on
the bakery’s Instagram account. As a result, they were flying off the shelves - which was
great. But Lindsay hadn’t realized just how many they’d need. By 2 p.m. she had made more
of the donuts. She brought them out from the back of the bakery and walked towards
the front counter, wanting to take another picture for social media before putting them on
the display stand, next to the dark chocolate mousse donuts.
However, she had not quite reached the counter when a man practically flew through
the front door and ran into her, and now twenty-three tiramisu donuts were lying on
the bakery floor. The last one had somehow landed on his shoulder. He quickly put it on
the nearest table. Lindsay looked at the donuts lying on the floor. They were ruined.
“Look what you have done!” she cried.
“They’re just donuts,” he answered.
He spoke in such a casual way as though it was no big deal. Lindsay folded her arms and
was about to shout at him when she heard a loud “Oh!” behind her. She turned round. It was
her co-worker Raquel. She looked at the man again. The man was wearing a white shirt, now
covered in white chocolate. Lindsay thought that Raquel was pleased that the man had got
what he deserved.
Lindsay pointed to the donut on the table.
“Try it, please,” she said.
“Hmm, it isn’t bad, but tiramisu isn’t my thing. I’ll pay for the ruined donuts, however,” he said
after taking a bite.
“One donut costs 3 dollars 50 cents. So… that’s 84 dollars for all of them,” Lindsay
explained.
“Eighty-four dollars for donuts? That’s too much!” the man said.
“There are lots of quality ingredients in those donuts,” Lindsay replied.
He walked over to the cash register and pulled out a credit card.
“I’ll get a chocolate cupcake, too.” He grabbed one from the counter and popped it into his
mouth. “Now, this is good. And sorry about the donuts.”
After paying, he headed out into the sunshine, and as soon as the door closed behind him,
Raquel said, “Do you know who that was? Ryan Kwok! The famous actor!” Raquel took out
her phone and showed Lindsay a picture. Then Lindsay went to his Instagram account.
The profile picture looked like the guy who’d just walked out of the bakery. Ah! That was
the real reason Raquel had screamed.
“Why was he so careless? I got so mad at him, didn’t I?” Lindsay asked.
“You did,” Raquel answered.

“I’m sorry,” Lindsay responded, looking at the ruined donuts and thinking about the man who
was no longer there. “I was really unkind.”
